Fell In Love With A Girl...And A Boy

I'm so sad to hear that The White Stripes have broken up.   I have always been a huge fan of their amazing music and kooky sense of style.  Thank god the supremely talent Jack White's music will live on via The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.  In memoriam....

Baby I'm A Fool

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Melody Gardot concert at the legendary Keswick Theatre. Anyone who is not familiar with the Philadelphia native's music and inspirational story should watch this.

Gardot is more than just another sultry-smooth jazz singer.  She has the stage presence of a seasoned pro and is amazingly only twenty five.  She has the grace of a prima ballerina, yet walks with a cane.  And best of all, she had an amazing sense of style that could rival the chic-est Parisian in France.  Oh and her three-piece band was also INCREDIBLE!

This was one of my favorite songs of the evening :)

Pretty On The Inside

Very randomly, I'm feeling a little nostalgic for the early/mid 90's Courtney Love. I think it's because I recently saw pictures of her and she looks like a terrible, plasticized, Muppet-like version of her former self. Not like she was a looker back in the day, but she had a certain appeal only a crazy, drug addicted riot grrl could get away with. In her Hole days I just adored her sense of style: the babydoll dresses, the Mary Janes, the kiddie plastic barrettes strategically placed in greasy, scraggly hair...so fun! Pulling off a little homage to Courtney is possible...but too literal of an interpretation can go horribly wrong. You don’t want to look like you look just shot up in the bathroom. And afterward punched someone in the face. Rock N Roll!

Wolfman's Got Nards!

Ah, Halloween. It was never my favorite holiday but I’ve grown appreciate it. I can eat mass quantities of Reese's Cups without remorse, dress like a
trollop without being judged and indulge in deliciously bad 80’s horror flicks. What's there not to love? And who doesn't love some scary tunes? You can't fully enjoy Halloween without a petrifying playlist. So without further adieu, here’s my 13 Creepy-Kooky-Mysterious-Spooky & Sweet Playlist...mooohahahaaa! That’s my evil laugh in case you couldn’t tell.

Jenny Lewis - Run Devil Run
Spacehog – Horror Show
The Pierces – Secret
Nouvelle Vague – Killing Moon
Squirrel Nut Zippers – Ghost Of Stephen Foster
Janet Jackson – Black Cat
The Cranberries – Zombie
Santo & Johnny – Sleepwalker

The Sun'll Come Out...Eventually?

Blah...rain. So necessary, yet so depressing. What a lovely Nor'easter we're experiencing, eh? The dreary weather makes me totally covet these rain boots in black or if I was a rich girl these bad boys. Notice how it all comes back to shopping? Must. Fight. Urge. TO SHOP!

I suppose a more economical way to weather the storm is to create a rainy day play list. That way while I’m at work I can listen, drink some hot chocolate & await the return of sunny days!

Ain’t No Sunshine - Bill Withers
Back Water Blues - Bessie Smith
Cloudy Sky – The Cardigans
Fool in the Rain – Led Zeppelin
I Can’t Stand the Rain – Ann Peebles
Purple Rain – Prince
Singin' in the Rain – Gene Kelly
Stormy Weather – Billie Holiday
The Rain – Melody Gardot
Umbrella – Rihanna
Tomorrow - Aileen Quinn

Last Gasp

Now that September's here it's totally sinking in that summer (sadly) is just about over. Although I'm super excited for fall: new clothes, pumpkin flavored ANYTHING & crispy weather...I'm bummed. So in a pathetic attempt to cling to summer I'll be playing my Summer '09 Playlist repeatedly until September 22, 2009 at 5:18pm (first day o’ fall). Maybe even beyond that.

The playlist consists of the songs I found myself playing over & over these past few months. I love how you can listen to a song and remember a certain time of year, person, event etc. This eclectic mix of old & new fav's will always remind me of Summer ‘09 :)

Coconut Girl - Brother Noland

The Ocean - Led Zeppelin

Summerboy - Lady Gaga

Sunday Morning - No Doubt

It’s A Good Day - Peggy Lee

Hot Pants (I’m Coming) - Bobby Byrd

The Greeks - Michel Colombier

Tennessee Jed - Levon Helm

Twenty Five Miles - Edwin Starr

I And Love And You - The Avett Brothers

My One And Only Thrill - Melody Gardot

Volare - The Maguire Sisters

40 Day Dream - Edwin Starr & the Magnificent Zeros
