Flamingos, Fashion & Festivity

As you can probably guess from my blog header, I have a thing for flamingos.  I believe my fascination with the birds originated when I was a kid.   Every summer, my family would go to this restaurant on vacation in Long Beach Island, New Jersey.  The decor at the Terrace Tavern was (and still is!) all flamingos, right down to the swizzle sticks in the cocktails (or in my case, the Shirley Temples).

I love the gaudy fabulousness associated with flamingo-themed fashion items. They will eternally remind me of vacations, warm weather and fun times!

P.S. This is my 100th post! Go me!

ATREYU!

If you look up Epic Children's Movie in the dictionary you'll see the movie poster for The Never-Ending Story. What an awesome yet bizarre flick! Isn’t it funny how movies marketed to kids in the 1980’s were really intense and freaky? Kid’s movies today are so safe & pansy-like.

If you’re unfamiliar with the movie, here’s a brief synopsis:

Nerdy boy gets picked on. While hiding from bullies, nerdy boy finds old book. Nerdy boy is introduced to a dreamy world called Fantasia. Residents of Fantasia include a child empress, a child warrior, an enormous furry dragon and a scary-as-shit wolf (that’s really an evil force threatening to destroy Fantasia). Many terrible, heart wrenching moments ensue, including the death of child warrior’s beloved horse and destruction of Fantasia. Nerdy boy magically gets written into the story. Many wacky adventures ensue and with the help of a bad ass amulet (pictured below), nerdy boy restores Fantasia. Everyone lives happily ever after. Nerdy boy grows some balls, and dead horse comes back to life.

So where am I going with this whole Never-Ending story shpeal? Well, lately I’ve been seeing necklaces all over the place that remind me of the bad ass amulet. So now I want a bad ass amulet of my very own. That’s about it.

It’s Only Natural!

Mother Nature and I are not the best of friends. I am not, nor will I (most likely) ever be an “outdoor-sy” girl. Camping sounds like a punishment. Gardening is just gross. Hiking up a mountain? Give me a stroll on a suburban street any day. Especially if that street has little boutiques and a coffee shop. With doughnuts.

So clearly I am not an Earth Child. But I do have a vast appreciation for the beauty and wonder of nature. Being that autumn is quite possibly the loveliest time of year, it’s also the perfect time to indulge in some dreamy nature-themed jewelry. No sleeping on the ground, touching of dirt or encounters with critters necessary!
